2023 President’s Report

President’s Report 2023

I am delighted to provide a comprehensive overview of the impactful events that have defined our organization’s journey over the past 12 months.

Advocacy and Partnerships

Our commitment to advocacy was evident in engaging with North Sydney Federal MP Hon. Kylea Tink, addressing critical issues related to youth mental health and exploring potential climate actions. Collaborating with Welcome Merchant, a social enterprise supporting small businesses owned by refugees, we contributed floral arrangements for their Valentine’s Day Lunch and Refugee Week Dinner. The launch of our TikTok account in February, co-designed by the Youth Action Group, aimed to provide positive content and engage a wider audience on social media.

Environmental Initiatives

As a charity partner with the Return & Earn Scheme, we launched the ‘Petal-it-Forward’ Campaign in March, encouraging the public to support our cause by donating the 10 cents refund for plastic or glass bottles. Our ‘Bushwalk of the Month’ initiative emphasized dedication to activities beneficial to physical and mental health, along with fostering community connections. The Succulent Terrarium Workshop with Sahara Services and Floral Arrangement Workshop with The Freedom Hub aligned with our goal of being inclusive.

Program Expansions

A significant milestone was achieved with the successful conversion of a grant initially awarded for an Apprenticeship Program to general program use. This allowed us to expand our offerings, including public liability insurance, creative workshops, and youth mentoring, demonstrating our commitment to program growth and sustainability.

Community Engagement and Education:

Our active participation in events such as Harmony Week, NAIDOC Week, the Freedom Market, RUOK? Day, and Youth Week and Mental Health Month Bunnings BBQs reinforced our commitment to cultural awareness and mental health advocacy. Information sessions on the ‘Voice to Parliament’ referendum at the Eastwood Chinese Senior Citizen Club in August and presentation on mentoring at SECNA’s Meetup in September exemplified our dedication to community education and informed discussions.

Youth Empowerment:

The official launch of the CFS Youth Mentoring Program in May and collaborative efforts with the Youth Action Group underscored our commitment to empowering the younger generation. These initiatives aimed to provide guidance, support, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Creative Workshops and Festivals

Our organization organized a Climate Action Art Competition, providing a platform for creative expression on climate-related themes. The Creative Workshops (Facilitated) by Young for Young People and our active participation in the Social Enterprise Festival, as well as Willoughby Council’s EMERGE Festival, showcased our dedication to fostering creativity and community engagement.

Year-End Celebrations:

We concluded the year with a festive spirit, celebrating the ‘Graduation’ of the
Laughter Yoga Spring Program and participating in Christmas events, including the Bunnings Chatswood Christmas Market. In summary, this year has been marked by impactful initiatives, community partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to our mission. We extend our heartfelt
gratitude to all members, partners, and stakeholders for their continuous support.
