Bushwalk

Rail2River Walk

(Through Ferndale Park Track)

Sat 26 July 2025

Hidden behind suburban streets, Ferndale Park provides a
bush backyard for local residents. The walk along the
fern filled Swaines Creek reveals a quieter, more serene and peaceful part of Chatswood.

Track length: Approximately a 4 km return trip.
Track grade: Easy to medium (Level 2, see notes below) – on unsealed bush tracks with steep steps in sections. Sturdy shoes are required.

Click here for the map.

Level 2: (No bushwalking experience required. The track is hardened or compacted surface and may have a gentle hill section or sections and occasional steps. Walks no greater than 10km.)

SPOT a FERN!

There will be a ‘Spot a Fern’ Game to encourage active observation of the environment.

Time: 1 hr. 45 min. (including photo breaks and morning tea but excluding lunch)

Meeting point: Bartels Park, near 22 Edgar St Chatswood.

Suggestions for lunch: Picnic at Bartels Park, Chatswood. Bring your own lunch and a snack (fruits or nibbles). A short break for morning tea and water at O.H. Reid Memorial Park near the Lane Cove River.

This group will leave at 10:05 am (the latest). If you are late, follow the map to catch-up with the group. (Google Map from Bartels Park to O.H. Reid Memorial Park via Ferndale Park)

If you prefer to come by public transport, Bibi will meet you at Artarmon Train Station (Elizabeth St Exit) at 9:45 am. Please let her know by email: communityflowerstudio@yahoo.com

I enjoy being close to Nature and exploring the flora and fauna on my path. I have been a bushwalk leader with the Sydney Bushwalks and Getaways Meetup Group for a little while until COVID-19 hit Sydney. I’m revisiting the bush with CFS members and our Circle of Friends.
